Dematting

In line with the Animal Welfare Act (2006), Spot On dog grooming will not subject any dog to extensive dematting attempts as these can cause considerable pain and distress to the dog. We can and do expect the odd knot here and there but matting is a whole different ball game, when the fur is pelted the only humane way to remove these are getting under the mats with the shortest clipper blade as it is not something we can brush out.

When the dog is matted, we believe in doing what is best for your dog. In many cases, this means shaving the mats out of your dog. Shaving is not a 'short cut' to get the job done quickly, this can be a very slow, tedious and dangerous process, their skin can be very sore and delicate. Therefore, shaving a matted dog must be done with the upmost care.

Matting is a condition in your dog's fur that is caused by dense tangles and knots. It's a painful condition that can lead to other health concerns such as infections or skin irritations and can also mask other health issues or parasites. Mats cut of air flow in your dogs hair and trap moisture, which can cause irritation and sores. Even mild matting can be painful.

Please note there will be no judgement on the condition of your dogs coat, as we understand that brushing some of the dogs is a difficult task. However, should your dogs coat be badly matted, I will require permission to clip off their matted coat and start a fresh. It is the most humane and kindest way of dealing with coats in this condition.

If you have a long haired dog and wish to maintain the long length, or fluffy teddy bear look, your dog must be brushed and combed thoroughly on a regular basis, either by ourselves or by doing this yourself a home.  If you require assistant in the proper use of the tools to accomplish this, we will be happy to assist you with advise. We also sell great brushes here.

Going forward, we strongly advise regular grooming sessions, especially if you have a fluffy wool type coat ..i.e Cockerpoos, Doodles, Bichions etc These coats matt very easily if not maintained and we would recommend 6/8 weekly bookings, and possible maintenance grooms, which consists of us just brushing out, in between if you want the coat fluffy and are not brushing sufficently home.
